About UsWe like to call ourselves a "multi-denominational" church. We're proudly affiliated with the American Baptist Church, but on any given Sunday you'll find folks in worship from many denominations and backgrounds - and many with no "church history" at all!
We pride ourselves on offering a church service that appeals to all ages, but is particularly designed to be "senior friendly"! Traditional hymns of the faith, large print bulletins, easy to read projection, hearing assistance, and easy access ensure that persons of any age or ability are able to join us in worship and throughout the week. ALL are welcome to join us in worship, study and service - we mean it!. |
Our Staff
Senior Pastor Jim Ward
Senior Pastor at West Alameda Community Baptist Church and Director of Mission and MInistry at Eaton Sr. Communities since 2014, Jim enjoys sharing his love of God's word in worship and teaching. Licensed in the United Methodist Church and ordained in the American Baptist Church, Jim enjoys incorporating special faith traditions from many Christian sources. In particular, his church "mission" is to help all see that the Bible is God's love letter to humanity, and speaks to us and our world today as much as it ever has. Congregational Care Minister and Financial Administrator Jeanne Henderson Jeanne's association with West Alameda Community Baptist Church and Eaton Sr. Communities goes back to 2001 when some close friends moved here. Since then she has been an active volunteer, and since 2010 on staff directing Congregational Care ministries for both the church and Eaton. In 2018 she also assumed the duties of Financial Administrator for the church. |
Our History
Founded as the "not-quite-yet" city of Lakewood was being settled in 1951, West Alameda Community Baptist Church, an American Baptist Church congregation, has a long history of being a blessing to our members and our community. Always socially concerned, the church hosted the first Jefferson County Public Library, one of the first church day-care centers in the area, a community health clinic, and was the first racially integrated church in Jefferson County.
In 1978, under the leadership of Pastor Dean Painter, the church made the courageous decision to sell their West Alameda Ave. church campus in order to buy nearby land and build the senior housing community which is now known as Eaton Senior Communities. Today, from its home within The Residences at Eaton Senior Communities, the church still reaches out in love to its neighbors, partnering with mission and social service agencies both local and international, and offering love and support to all who need Good News in their lives, both within our walls and beyond.
